Hello March! 🌸

We hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day, whether you spent it with your human Valentine, your four-legged soulmate, or simply treating yourself (which absolutely counts, by the way).

Here at RAW Photography Manchester, February was filled with love: the fluffy, slightly chaotic, treat-fuelled kind, and we’re kicking off this month’s blog with a little peek behind the scenes of our Valentine’s pet photoshoot.

We’ll also be talking about the fast-approaching Mother’s Day (yes, it’s coming up quickly!), and as always, we’ll help you avoid that last-minute gift panic 😉

But first… let’s talk about what happens when you ask a rabbit and a dog to pretend to love each other for a photo session.

Behind the Scenes: A Valentine’s Love Story (Kind Of) 💕

This year’s Valentine’s shoot featured two very professional models:
Miss BunnyPenny 🐰 and Vixie 🐶

Their task?
To convincingly pretend they adored each other for the duration of the photo session.

Let’s just say… it required some negotiation…

There was a fair amount of gentle bribery involved, and more than a few enthusiastic, sloppy kisses from Vixie. Miss BunnyPenny remained the picture of calm elegance throughout, clearly the more composed of the two.

Mother’s Day Is Around the Corner… 🌸

Valentine’s might be done for another year, but Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and here’s something we see time and time again through our lenses…

Mums are usually the ones behind the camera.

♥️ They’re the memory-keepers.
👗 The outfit coordinators.
🍪 The snack carriers.
📷 The ones reminding everyone to “smile properly.”

They capture the milestones, the messy bits, the everyday magic, but so often, they’re missing from the frame themselves.

Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to change that.

Dog mum? Yeah, you too!

And let’s be clear, when we say “mums”, we mean all mums. Human mums. Step mums. Grandmas. And yes, absolutely dog mums, rabbit mums, cat mums, horse mums… the lot. If you’re the one doing the caring, loving, nurturing, and worrying, it counts.

The Photography Show 📷

Heads up, we’ll be out of the studio from 13–17 March because we’re heading off to The Photography & Video Show at the NEC in Birmingham!

This is one of the UK’s biggest events for anyone passionate about photography, video, and visual storytelling, and it’s always an inspiring few days full of energy and creativity, so we’re super excited to be back as it’s only up North once every other year now.

What’s going on there, you ask (especially if you’re not a photographer)? Well, it’s a bit like a festival for people who love photos, videos, and cameras:

✨ Over 250 brands showcasing the latest cameras, lenses, lighting gear, and accessories, so you get to see what’s new and what’s worth getting excited about.
✨ More than 500 talks, demos, and presentations across four days, covering everything from creative techniques to inspiring stories from top photographers.
✨ Hands-on experiences where you can try before you buy, ask questions, and see gear in real life rather than just online.

As divers, we are particularly excited about Rebecca Douglas’s talk on underwater photography 🤩

Whether you’re someone who casually snaps memories with your phone, buys cameras for holidays, or just enjoys seeing beautiful pictures online, this show is a reminder that there’s always something new to learn and new ways to see the world through a lens.

We’ll be soaking up all of that inspiration, polishing up our skills, learning new ones, and usually managing to come home with at least one item we definitely need… maybe 😉
